5G technology, which will make the use of our smartphones, wearables and other telecom devices better, with more data and faster, is being set up across the US particularly in big cities. Wireless industry experts say 5G is like ‘4-G on steroids.’
However, not everyone is excited. Some consumer groups and scientists are concerned that 5G will be more dangerous to our health.
Professor Martin Pall who is a preeminent scientist on the topic of cell phone radiation also known as “EMF” or electromagnetic field. He believes that EMF is dangerous to our health and refuses to hold any wireless device. He uses a wired mouse and computer and even has a shield covering his computer screen to reduce the EMF and goes as far as to wear EMF resistant fabric next to his skin.
Pall’s credentials include a degree in Physics from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD and also a Ph.D. in biochemistry and genetics from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA.
Because of his degrees in both of the life sciences and physics, Pall is able to understand how crucial the interaction is between them and therefore how EMF impacts every cell in our bodies.
According to Pall, EMF can produce neuropsychiatric effects, causing reproductive problems, sleeplessness, headaches, anxiety and oxidative stress, which is involved in every aspect of all chronic diseases.
Pall isn’t the only one who has spoken out about the risks of EMF. Consumer groups are doing so too and three medical groups connected EMF to cancer especially in childhood leukemia. These groups are: in the US – the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS); the European Commission Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks; and globally the World Health Organization (WHO), especially its working group, the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
As far as the telecom industry is concerned, Jonathan Adelstein who is with the Wireless Infrastructure Association (WIA), says that the safety issues have been thoroughly studied and assures that there is no reason to be concerned that EMF from 5G is dangerous to our health.
WIA represents wireless companies such as Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and others. Adelstein says that the companies in the association follow all guidelines that have been made by the US government as well as the WHO, deferring to the scientists in the industry who say that wireless usage is safe.
US regulators with the Food and Drug Administration reviewed hundreds of studies and told Congress recently that the radiation levels from cellphone usage remain acceptable for protecting public health.
Whether EMF is detrimental or not, 5G implementation is forging ahead.
